It's Biodiversity Day!

It's Biodiversity Day! Also known as International Day for Biological Diversity, Biodiversity Day encourages us to learn more about biodiversity issues around us and in biodiverse hotspots.

This year's theme is "Building a Shared Future for All Life." You can learn more about the theme here

Due to some work I've been caught up with, I was not able to write a full post for today but I did want to drop by a really interesting article by National Geographic that was published in 2018. I found some really fascinating points among this article, especially:

  • Indigenous people protect 80% of global biodiversity
  • Quote from Kelly Swing: '“The fact that the Amazon ecosystems are as rich as they are today is proof of how successful these cultures have been, in living in balance with their environment.”'
  • "...many leaders hope to clarify that the global biodiversity goals be met not only with traditional protected areas like parks—which have conservation as the primary objective of management—but also with areas that show conservation outcomes, rather than objectives."
Definitely give it a read and let me know any other interesting articles you found below! And until next time, happy biodiversity day!
