Happy World Animal Day! & Everything You Need to Know About It - Special Post

Welcome back, and Happy World Animal Day! This is not much of a celebrated holiday and should definitely be more publicized, so I thought I could do more than sending my wishes for this awesome international holiday.

Here it is:

I've prepared five things you need to know about World Animal Day in Q & A format, but we all know our questions don't stop at just five. To feed your curiosity I've also listed links at the end of this post to learn more about World Animal Day. Enjoy!

1) What is the history of World Animal Day?

World Animal Day was first celebrated on March 24, 1925, in Berlin, Germany. It was founded by Heinrich Zimmermann, and though it was first celebrated March 24th it was moved to October 4th by the original intentions of being set on the day of the Christian Saint Francis of Assisi who was the patron saint of animals and of ecology. In 1931, it was made into an international holiday by efforts of Zimmermann's and the International Animal Protection Congress. Source

2) What is World Animal Day all about?

World Animal Day is about acknowledging animals around the world and raising awareness about their welfare! It is celebrated differently all around, but I found the tips by the news.janegoodall.org website to be a good summary!

Though right now it might seem hard to volunteer at animal shelters, donating and supporting movements by others is just as fun and helpful. Try spreading the word on social media of what World Animal Day is all about and include links with ways people can help out animals of all kinds!

If you'd like, you can even link the blog ;)

Which leads into the next question...

3) I can't go outside because of the global pandemic. How can I help out?

Great question! So many websites are requesting donations it's actually kind of overwhelming. I like to stick to the websites I know that donating any amount can help create change.

Here are two favorites:

        1) World Wildlife Fund - WWF is a great way to donate some money and help create change this World Animal Day (as you might have heard if you're a frequent reader!). To donate, click here. If you'd like, you can even receive a free pair of socks, totes, or a straw and cleaning brush upon donating! (Though if you'd like to help out as much as possible, please consider choosing the neither option!).

        2) African Wildlife Foundation - According to this Yahoo source, about 87 cents of every dollar donated to this foundation will go towards conservation programs in Africa. If this sounds small to you, I can assure you it certainly isn't! The African Wildlife Foundation helps a variety of African species and you can donate and help out too! Link to donate

4) When is World Animal Day?

World Animal Day is celebrated every year on October 4th!

5) Are there any other links to answer my burning questions about World Animal Day?

Yes, your questions are now finally going to be answered! Here are a few links:

       1) World Animal Day Website - https://www.worldanimalday.org.uk/

       2) National Today's World Animal Day Page - This website has an FAQ section as well as places to learn about history and ways to help out! https://nationaltoday.com/world-animal-day/

        3) Official Twitter Account of World Animal Day Website - Everyone loves scrolling through a twitter feed, so here's a link to the world animal day website's twitter! They post quite often and I            reccomend hitting the follow button!

That's it for this post! If you have any other questions link them down below and let your friends and family know about World Animal Day! If not celebrating this year, they can at least mark their calendars and think of ways to help animals until then!

Stay tuned, and S.P.A.T!

Help Save the Vaquitas!

Vaquitas are critically endangered, with some scientists estimating only 10-15 left in the wild. This number is decreasing with the number of fishing accidents that happen, and we have to help! To learn more, read my post on vaquitas to gain insight and learn about websites that can help you contribute to their cause here.
