Stuck in Studies? How I Take Time Off Screens - Special Post

Hi everyone, welcome back! I admit these past few weeks have been a bit hectic, from keeping up with distance work to finding time to relax and chill out for a bit. Time passes fast when you are having fun, but also when you are busy with work!

I've been trying to keep up with everything I have to do recently and I admit it feels as if I'm stuck in a world of studies! As someone who loves to get up and get going, I had to slowly develop new tactics to tackle the challenges I faced doing distance work.

So here are my top 5 tips for distance work - school or office style!

1. Take a Break

Spending this much time on the screen was never in any way something I would imagine to happen five years ago. I've already gone through a laptop that is now full and barely functioning because I'm constantly on my laptop! That being said, it's so important to get away from the laptop for a bit. I like to hang around with my pets for a while, dance along with my favorite tunes, or talk with someone. It's best to get away from that screen for a bit and take some time to check-in :)

2. What's Up?

No, what's really up? Such a casual question is sometimes better asked not by our friends but by ourselves. During a global pandemic when we're all stuck inside sometimes it's best to take a look at how you're feeling on the inside! There's a lot of decreasing mental health going on, and it's not just recently that I've been trying to keep positivity my middle name. As Robbie Rogge once said, "Do one thing every day that makes you happy" :).

3. Take Some Time Off the News

I used to often listen to the five-minute news podcast in the morning to get in shape for the day. Now, I go online and read stories instead. Why the sudden switch? There are a few more reasons than just one, but I've realized that the five-minute news is a condensed version of the most important news that happens throughout a day - and as we all know, the news is half made for us to be drawn to. Recently, deadlines flashing with COVID-19 are ones that grab the most attention, and usually the ones that get all the spotlight. So what's through with the 5-minute news? Mostly just news on the coronavirus or those that are shocking and terrifying to hear bright and early in the morning.

And I'm not saying the news isn't important: it certainly is! The news is how we are aware of things happening around us, and masking from real-world issues isn't something we should be doing as it just contributes to not making change. But sometimes, it's best not to start your morning with the world's issues - for then you seem to picture your day with issues and look at the world differently than if you started with the positives.

Try it out and tell me how it goes!

4. Tune In To An Old Television Show

Digging deep in your studies when suddenly you remember an old TV show? It's happened to me many times before; and quarantine is the perfect time to start binging some of those old TV shows. What happened to that show you used to watch with the family? What about that movie that brought you to tears? Bring them back slowly one by one to relive your favorite moments and view an old show through a new perspective.

5. Get Some Sleep

This is one I don't do too much admittingly but I try very hard to do. Getting 8 or more hours of sleep a night is especially important for those working hard on screens every day. Sleep helps your body take rest. So get some REM in!

That's it for today's post! Comment down below with ways you take time off the screens.

Stay tuned, and remember, S.P.A.T.!

Help Save the Vaquitas!

Vaquitas are critically endangered, with some scientists estimating only 10-15 left in the wild. This number is decreasing with the number of fishing accidents that happen, and we have to help!
