Animals in Different Perspectives (#7) - If I Could Be Any Animal For A Day...
Hi everyone!
I was recently browsing some ideas for a blog post, especially since being stuck at home all day doesn't give me much of an opportunity to write about things I've explored and seen that I want to dive into. One prompt I found that caught my eye was: If you could be any animal for a day, what would you be and why?
Now I know this isn't completely original, but I hope by the end of writing this post I get some creative juices flowing. While that happens, enjoy this post!
This was going to be a definite challenge for me. As an absolute lover of all animals, being just about any species could keep me ecstatic for the whole 24 hours of just about any day.
Because the selection process is such a big portion for me of this question, I'm going to split this post into two sections: my personal selection process and what I'd do in a day as _____ (just keep reading to find out which animal I pick!).
My [Long] Selection Process:
I know this was a hypothetical question, but I take all challenges seriously. I began plotting out possible animals that I could be for a day.
For example, I could be an animal living in the ocean:
Environmentally, any animal living in the ocean has it set. Whether you're a fish dependant on the beautiful coral reefs or a dangerous shark that lurks the waters, waiting for prey.
But which one? Jellyfish are interesting creatures, and since immortality is something that everyone seems to be into an immortal jellyfish seems like a good choice! Yet, these animals have their limitations. They have limited mobility and are easy prey.
So, what about sea horses? They are one of the coolest creatures ever (I know I say this a lot!) but they are small, and I'd like to be bigger.
See how this spirals? I ended up going over to the land side after realizing I had a mild fear of water and, though if I was a fish or other marine creature I could have gills, I decided to be on the safe side :)
So, I went with an animal living on the land:
If you know anything about geography, you know there is A LOT of land on our beautiful mother, Earth. But if you know anything about me, you know that I love love love love love love elephants (and that number of love's isn't even enough!).
Shaking my head since I didn't realize this sooner, I chose, of course, an elephant. Specifically, an African elephant! I've always wanted to see the parts of Africa through the eyes of an elephant.
Exploring the Lands as an Elephant:
[A Side Note: See How Many Facts About Elephants You Can Pick Up With This Story!]
My eyes twitched as I woke up, and not just from being sleepy! There were little flies near my eyes, and all my face seemed to want to do was flick my long, thin eyelashes at them.
I put one foot in front of the other, then remembering I had back legs. I looked down at my feet and saw little stubs that replaced my long, human legs from before. There were little curvatures of toenails that were white as the moon.
Speaking of the sky, the sun was burning my skin! I knew elephants can get overheated on hot days, but never knew how it felt. I wanted to switch on a fan, but all there I found was the ground.
I lay down again as I was sleeping but immediately stood up. The grass's yellow color felt like another sun on my back, pulsing through my skin, and straight to my heart.
I looked over at my mom, who was still sleeping standing. I trotted over to her, still uncomfortable with this walking method, and lifted my trunk to pat her. She woke up in a second, the light sleeper like all elephants are, and nudged her to look at the mud.
There was a mud pool just a few yards over that was practically calling me over. As I began prancing over, I felt a gentle touch by my mother and turned around. She was pointing to the water first. We had to wash ourselves a bit with water before we could play in the mud.
Luckily, the water was close enough to the mud, and the walk there was quick. I carried some water in my trunk, and splashed it over my body. The cool, icy water washed my face and I could feel the water residues remaining. The tiny droplets stuck to my skin for a while, but I didn't care for that! It was mud time!
I splashed myself in the mud, running around and feeling myself getting all wet. I loved it! My mom stood on the side watching me, occasionally dipping her feet in and walking across the mud. After I saw how dirty she was when she stepped out, I realized I must have been ten times worse!
That didn't matter though, I immediately felt better! For us elephants, this mud was a fan, cooling us when our body temperatures became too high and acting as a sunblock from the sun's rays.
When I felt satisfied enough, I danced out of the beautiful mud pool. The bugs stopped bothering me, another awesome side effect from the mud!
This morning was turning about to be one of the best. These small comforts make an elephant-like me ecstatic to live life every day!
I loved living the life of an elephant for a day. There are so many awesome choices, and all it takes is a little imagination and a whole lot of fun.
For those of you who are interested in more animals, try this in your free time: Google's virtual animals! I've been trying these for a while now but I never get bored of them. On top of that, it's a great treat that's free for everyone! All you have to do is search for an animal on your phone and click on the virtual reality aspect that will help have a real-life animal in whatever room you're in. Some can walk and fly around the room, some can change positions after a certain amount of time... there are lots to explore! You can have fun with friends and family by taking photos with the animals and sending them to anyone you'd like.
Here's a link for more directions and a list of animals to get you started.
That's it for this post! Until next time, stay tuned and S.P.A.T.!

- Help Save the Vaquitas!
- Vaquitas are critically endangered, with some scientists estimating only 10-15 left in the wild. This number is decreasing with the number of fishing accidents that happen, and we have to help! To learn more, read my post on vaquitas to gain insight and learn about websites that can help you contribute to their cause here.
