Last Month In Review (In Case You Missed It)- Special Post

Hi, and welcome back! I admit, it has been a while since I had been writing on this blog, but I'm back with a post! I thought since we'd missed last month altogether that I could do a review of all the science-y things going on then. It's a catch-up for me and for you!

Let's dive right in!

So here it is, an overview of November’s latest research, discoveries, and progress in the field of science:

A (Detailed) Simulation of the Universe-

An international team has recently created a virtual universe, about 230 light-years wide, made up of various astronomical figures like black holes, dark matter, and gases. Created by the IllustrisTNG Project, the simulation has been named TNG50. It has opened up a great amount of research opportunity, the results to be seen in this month's issue of, "Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society".

Robots Mimicking Sunflowers’ Phototropism-

The first synthetic material that can track the sun (similar to the ways sunflowers do) has been made. Called SunBOTs for a good reason, when in rod form they are able to harness three times the solar energy collected by the best solar powered systems today. The intention of SunBOTs was not to have a stable solar power system at all, but to have one that moves according to the direction of the sun without much energy to make the move being required.

A New State of Matter-

Research shows experimental evidence that there might be yet another
state of matter, topological conductivity. The benefits of the state include gains in quantum
computing, which is essentially a faster method of computing by using more than just binary
numbers, but numbers in between 0 and 1 as well.

Water Outside of Earth-

Water vapor has been confirmed to be found above Europa’s (one of Jupiter’s moons) surface. Though not in the form of water, it is enough to fill an actual Olympic swimming pool in minutes. Further information regarding the icy moon will have to wait until 2023, when NASA conducts its Europa Clipper mission.

That's it for this time! Stay tuned, I have plans for ahead!
