Back to School! - Animals in Different Perspectives (#1)
As I was going through the aisles in my local store, I came up with an idea for a new, "Animal's in Different Perspectives" post. That's right, today I am going to take you through a whole new perspective, animals as school supplies!
1) Pencil
The pencil is one of the most used school supplies anyone ever buys. Some need sharpening, and some you can refill. I feel the pencil best suits an eagle, sharp-eyed and ready for anything. I think of pencils as predators, and paper as the prey. Pencils get their prey with just as much accuracy as an eagle does.
2) Eraser
The eraser is a helpful tool in school, especially when you make mistakes. The pilot fish might sound unfamiliar, but have a very well-known symbiotic relationship. Sharks will come to them and open their mouths really wide. The pilot fish will then enter the mouth and start eating off the shark's teeth. It helps the shark by cleaning its teeth and preventing the shark from getting many diseases, including cavities. The eraser and pilot fish relate because they both help someone in some way. I also like to think the eraser "eats" the pencil marks, like the pilot fish eats the pieces of food left in the teeth.
3) Glue
Glue sticks like anything! Peeling back the glue off my fingers is one of my favorite pastimes. I remember clearly how I learned about remoras, and how they stick on to shark's (and other predators) bellies and catch the remaining pieces of meat the shark doesn't finish. Remoras are quite clever, and when thinking of what animal glue relates to, they were the first to come to mind. Remoras even have the nicknames, "sharksucker" and "whalesucker" because they are found so often on sharks and whales.
4) Scissors

Scissors cut through just about any material, and rats are quite similar. I am sure you have heard of the story, The Lion and the Mouse, which talks about a mouse who saves a lion by cutting through the ropes. Rats can chew plastic, wood, and even some metals! Rats are similar to scissors in so many ways, so I think of scissors as rats.
5) Crayons
Crayons are made of wax, but they leave bright colors wherever they are rubbed. The golden pheasant is such a beautiful bird, and it looks as if it were colored by crayons. Both crayons and pheasants shed, leaving their pretty shades behind them.
All animals are unique and special in each and every way. The bald eagle, the pilot fish, the remora, the rat, and the golden pheasant all show characteristics of common school supplies. I hope you enjoyed the first "Animals in Different Perspectives" post, and stay tuned!
